Saturday 9th August 2025 10am to 4pm
I am excited to announce that I have been invited by Larissa Warren of Ratbag Studios to conduct a one-day workshop to delve deeper into the art of clay appendages at the beautiful and picturesque location of Tamborine Mountain (QLD).
Throughout the day you will learn how to make and attach consistent and elegant handles, along with the ergonomics of what makes them good and bad. We will discuss clay appendage philosophy, practical consideration, aesthetics and how to make your handles stand out.
I will comprehensively demonstrate various methods for making handles and how to securely attach them seamlessly to your pots. Participants will have the opportunity to make and attach their own using applications such as:
Various method of pulling
Lugs
Slab-built
Sprigging
Multi-part
At the end of the day, I will demonstrate on how to make a cone 6 wood ash glaze (using Tamborine wood ash) and discuss its applications. Participants will be able to take some home with them to test on their own clay bodies.
Due to the multiple methods of making covered in this workshop, there is something for everyone, which makes this workshop suitable for all skill levels.
Handles may be small but they play a huge role in making an object truly functional and purposeful. So let’s start getting a handle on handles and take handmade handles to the next level.
All skill levels are welcome!!
What is included?
All materials.
Tea, coffee and lunch will be provided.
Greenware (approximately 3 per participants) to attach handles. Please feel free to bring along your own greenware and if you do please bring the same clay to attach your own handles
